Herringbone parquet: oak herringbone parquet installed in the most ancient restaurant in udine
It is in this project that we have designed and created this oak parquet floor in herringbone pattern, for the Vitello d’Oro restaurant in Udine.
The intention of the Property was to give a strong identity to the rooms of the restaurants, up to the recognizability of the kitchen: contemporary but – at the same time - able to harmonize with the history of the restaurant. The aim was to create solutions oriented to the highest quality, in which the people could feel the sense of a warm welcome.
Another space, a new experience that awaits. Feeling guest and traveler, never bound or restrained, to fully enjoy the welcome without giving up even a bit of freedom.
The wood chosen was oak, for its peculiar characteristics of resistance to wear and for its peculiarity of light and dark shades, enphasized by an oiled finishing and by the herringbone design, so to make it work in a unique way.
Looking at the room or walking from one table to another, the guest will feel part of a living space, which almost gives the perception in a delicate movement. This floor and the whole environment are capable of transmitting warmth and, at the same time, suggests that there is a history that continues. Wood was chosen by the interior designers among the solutions naturally capable of satisfying restyling intentions and capable of expressing this intention. Hence the choice of a floor made of parquet and installed in a herringbone pattern.
The parquet installed at the Vitello d'Oro restaurant has been finished with oil, to enhance the “material“ aspect of the wood, its naturalness, to fully experience the magic of a quality raw material, even in the furnishings. In addition to the aesthetic advantages - which perfectly suit designers’s intention - the oil finishing remains a choice that can offer significant advantages also for care and maintenance of the original appearance of the floor. Especially on high-traffic surfaces such as those in an area open to the public. If treated properly and with quality oils, the oil finished floor can guarantee excellent performance due to its resistance to stains. Moreover, unlike a varnished parquet floor, the oiled parquet floor very often allows small interventions to restore the the area in which a scratch is detected.
Whatever the type of wood or installation you are going to choose, to make sure that the aesthetic of the floor is perfect and lasts over time, it is important to choose a high quality herringbone floor.
The difference between the three is given substantially by the shape of the herringbones and by the inclination angles according to which they are laid. In the Italian herringbone are used strips (or planks) of rectangular shape laid between them at an angle of 90 °, forming two rows of perpendicular staves. In the French-style installation the strips are always of a fixed size, but the heads of the rectangles are cut at an angle of 45 °. In the case of Hungarian laying, the cutting angles are 30 ° or 60 °.
Sometimes, according to customer's choice - and especially when it comes to install this floor in large rooms - the herringbone parquet is combined with a “border”, or a strip of parquet laid along the perimeter area of the floor where the strips follow a different pattern orientation.
If you have always been in love with this floor or if, now that you have discovered it, a spark has started, you will find it convenient to know that this type of installation, in vogue for centuries and still appreciated by designers, architects and aesthetes, is traditionally available in three different modes: Italian herringbone, Hungarian herringbone, French herringbone. Always of great scenic effect, whatever the style you choose, the herringbone enlarges the perception of space and corrects with elegance any eventual imperfection given by walls out of square.
